Born in Portland, OR, but moved to Ventura, CA at 8 years old with younger brother and Mom. The deep-rooted surfing culture in Ventura helped Kyle find skateboarding, an escape from “real-life” issues going on around him, where he would spend between 6 and 12hrs/day honing his craft. With aspirations of becoming a professional skater, school was not a big priority but graduating High School was necessary and that included passing PE. Medina always loved the running aspect of PE and got a teacher who recognized some latent potential (running 5:19 in skate shoes, sagging skinny jeans and a sweatshirt as a sophomore). Little did Medina know his PE teacher was the Head Track Coach, Kory Anderson. After some convincing and a 3 week trial period, Kyle was hooked on track and never looked back.
Medina would also join the cross country team to better prepare for track and to embrace the challenge of XC
HS PBs: 1:53, 4:17, 14:51(XC 3mile), 15:33 (XC 5k)
After a relatively successful HS career, an opportunity to attend and compete for Chico State University was presented.
Under the guidance of Gary Towne, it was at Chico that Medina truly learned what hard work, consistency and camaraderie could accomplish…earning PBs and improving championship finishes each successive season. Eventually earning a spot at the 2018 USATF Outdoor Championships.
Medina joined Tinman Elite after graduating from Chico State (Boulder, Colorado) and trains under Tom “Tinman” Schwartz in the pursuit of challenging the sport of Athletics and the worlds best runners.

I do not have ALL the answers, I doubt anyone truly does. But I do have my education, experiences and a passion for helping others become the best versions of themselves through Athletics.
